Domain Backorder
What precisely is a domain backorder? How exactly does the backorder process function?
When an active domain expires, it can still be renewed by its current owner for about 60 days after the expiration and although it will not be active, it can't be used by someone else. In case the domain is not renewed by that point, however, it enters a 5-day deletion time frame and subsequently it is released to the general public. Throughout the deletion period anybody can send a backorder for the domain through an ICANN-certified domain registrar and the company will use its registry channel to try to register the domain for the user immediately after it's available. Since many registrars could attempt to get a particular domain and names are acquired on first-come, first-serve basis, there's no warranty that employing such an automated service will give you ownership over it, but this is the easiest way to get an appealing domain name since trying to register it personally almost certainly means that you'll be way too late.
